I have had a fascination with collecting antique textiles and trims since I was 16-years-old not ever knowing what I would do with them. At the end of my theatrical career, I found the purpose for what had become an astounding collection of antique materials. As I learned the art of creating these shades, I aspired to take them to the next level - to couture. My attention to detail borders on the obsessive so that not a single hand sewn stitch can be seen. Each textile project that I envision speaks a different language and needs a different element. It's just a feeling – maybe it’s a sense of scale, a color, a texture. Sometimes I’ll use a piece that I bought 25 years ago. It was just waiting for me to use – and it’s vintage now. We all get to be vintage eventually.
All my work has a strong theatrical quality. I have always loved the old and worn patina - that feeling of age. I combine that with my appreciation for the organic landscape of Western New York. Even more important to me is the feeling of the elements. My work usually speaks of rain or a clearing after a storm. I also favor the Magic Hour - when the light dances its most dramatic waltz.
